GeoSlope International has a nice overview of the general limit equilibrium (GLE) method in their February 2007 newsletter available from their website. I personally always struggle to remember the difference between the various methods of slope stability analysis, such as Bishop’s method, Janbu’s method, GLE, Spencer’s and Morgensten-Price. This article has a couple of nice figures showing how they all relate to each other and what that means for the factor of safety.
