Nicholson Opens New Offices in Austin and Kansas City

PITTSBURGH, PA – August 17, 2010 – Nicholson Construction Company is pleased to announce the opening of new offices in Austin, TX and Overland Park, KS (Kansas City). The Texas office will enhance Nicholson’s service to its Texas and Gulf Coast customers and the Kansas City office will strengthen Nicholson’s Midwestern presence. The two offices are now fully-operational with engineering, project management, and field operations resources available.

Texas Office

“Nicholson has constructed many geotechnical construction projects in Texas and the Gulf Coast markets over the years, from simple excavation support to complex high-capacity dam anchor projects”, says Tom Hurley, District Manager of Nicholson’s Western District, which includes the Texas office and the District office in Salt Lake City, UT. “We are excited to bring our geotechnical construction expertise to Texas and the Gulf Coast. With a local presence, we are better positioned to serve our clients on projects of all sizes”.

Cary Lange, P.E., is the branch manager of the Texas office. Mr. Lange has worked in geotechnical construction for over 10 years. He has managed many projects throughout the Western U.S. and Texas, including the San Antonio Convention Center. Mr. Lange states, “We now have the opportunity to consistently engage the Texas engineering and contracting community. I look forward to participating and collaborating with Texas clientele, assisting with their projects and their unique demands and lending to their successful planning, construction and completion.” Mr. Lange is highly experienced in ground improvement, ground treatment, deep foundations, and anchored earth retention technologies. He is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, International Association of Foundation Drilling, and the Deep Foundations Institute. Mr. Lange holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from University of Missouri at Rolla and a master’s in geotechnical engineering from Purdue University.

Robin Bullock, superintendent, will be responsible for overseeing field operations in the Texas office. Mr. Bullock has over 20 years of experience in geotechnical construction and has directly supervised many challenging projects utilizing a broad spectrum of techniques including compaction grouting, jet grouting, soil mixing, slurry walls, soil nailing, and anchored earth retention.

Kansas City Office

“Nicholson has been very successful in Midwestern markets over the years, constructing a wide range of techniques from simple earth retention to complex secant pile dam cutoff walls”, says Roger Baldwin Vice President of Nicholson’s Central Region, which now includes the Western and Midwest Districts with offices in Austin, TX; Salt Lake City, UT; Overland Park, KS; and Kalamazoo, MI. “We are excited to establish an office in the Kansas City area. It will put us in a better position to serve our clients in the entire Midwestern geographical area”.

The branch manager for the Kansas City office is William F. (Bill) Powers III, P.E. Mr. Powers has worked in the geotechnical design and construction field for over 18 years and has managed many notable large projects throughout Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Iowa and Arkansas. “We will offer complete design-build and bid-build services from project conception through final closeout, to uniquely assist the engineering and contracting communities, in the specialized areas of ground improvement, ground treatment, deep foundations, and anchored earth retention technologies,” says Mr. Powers. Mr. Powers is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, International Association of Foundation Drilling, and the Deep Foundations Institute. Mr. Powers has a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from University of New Hampshire and a master’s in civil engineering with a geotechnical emphasis from Texas A&M University.

In addition to opening the two new office locations, Nicholson is pleased to announce the hiring of Bill Hiney who will work as a project superintendent for Nicholson’s Central Region. Mr. Hiney comes to us with over 30 years of earth retention and deep foundation experience. His arrival will further strengthen our support of excavation and underpinning capabilities and will assist in the expansion efforts of Nicholson’s Central Region throughout the Midwestern and Western states.
