Hawthorne, N.J. (October 4, 2018):  Deep Foundations Institute (DFI) has introduced the DFI Traveling Lecturer program to promote the field of geotechnical engineering and deep foundation construction by encouraging students to explore a career in the deep foundations industry, providing information on topics of interest to members of the industry, and raising awareness of how DFI and its activities support the industry.

Each year, DFI will select a prominent industry expert as the DFI Traveling Lecturer to present a series of lectures to university students, professional groups and industry associations.

John R. Wolosick, P.E., D.GE, F.ASCE, director of engineering at Hayward Baker Inc. (HBI) and immediate past president of DFI, has been selected as the 2018-2019 DFI Traveling Lecturer. He is available, on request of DFI, to present lectures through August 31, 2019. There are several lectures to choose from under the broad topic of Geotechnical Case Histories of Design/Build Projects for Micropile Foundations, Landslide, and Slope Stabilization Projects.

“John Wolosick’s 39 years of experience in geotechnical engineering and contracting, combined with his reputation as an engaging speaker, make him a perfect traveling lecturer to represent the industry and DFI,” says Theresa Engler, DFI executive director. “As an expert in slope stabilization, support of excavation, soil nailing, micropile foundations and all types of grouting, he is always willing to share his knowledge with the deep foundations community.”

Wolosick delivered the first lecture on September 25, 2018, to a group of industry professionals hosted by Isherwood Geostructural Engineers in Burlington, ON, Canada. The lecture titled Stabilization of the Bluffs at Pointe du Hoc, Normandy, France highlighted a key design/build project for landslide and slope stabilization.

In addition to his role at HBI and in many industry organizations and committees, Wolosick has authored more than 35 technical papers. He is the recipient of the 2008 ASCE Geo-Institute Martin S. Kapp Foundation Engineering Award and was named the Georgia Society of Professional Engineers ‘Engineer of the Year – Industry’ in 2017. He holds B.S. and M.S. degrees in civil engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
