London Crossrail Geotechnical Challenges and Innovations

The Crossrail project in London was Europe’s largest infrastructure project at the time of its construction beneath metro London, and there were many geotechnical innovations and challenges. Lord Robert Mair of Cambridge University recently gave a presentation to the US National Science Foundation (NSF) Committee on Geological and Geotechnical Engineering (COGGE) on the topic. Check out his presentation, describing the tunneling, settlement considerations, compensation grouting, and tunneling effects on deep foundations.
