A landslide blocked the Chilcotin River in BC, Canada about 285 km north of Vancouver on July 30, 2024 and subsequently breached on August 5, 2024. The landslide dam breach raised the level of the Chilcotin River by approximately 2 m and the Fraser River by approximately 1 m. There were evacuations along both rivers, but a catastrophic breach did not occur.
There are good photos and videos on this CBC News page, and a few more great photos on a NASA page, including the one below showing the muddy, woody debris-filled material from the dam breach entering the Fraser River.
