A major landslide occurred on July 8, 2023, in the Rolling Hills Estates on the North side of the Palos Verdes peninsula in LA County resulting in the evacuation of 12, likely destroyed, homes. There are no reports of injuries but the photos and video show movement on the order of 10s of feet. The YouTube video below is probably the best one I’ve seen (found via the Landside Blog). It’s too early for causes, but the Palos Verdes peninsula is home to other landslide complexes. And that part of California has had a great deal of rain in the preceding months as well.
