Vertical environmental wells for monitoring or remediation of contaminated sites are fairly well known. But over the last 20-years or so, the technology for directional drilling for environmental remediation has existed but has been largely underutilized. This article discusses some of the difficulties associated with this type of work and why more contractors have not been successful in navigating this aspect of the directional drilling business. There are numerous technical, administrative and regulatory roadblocks that must be overcome, but there is also opportunities for innovation. [Source: Trenchless Technology Online.
