New Guidance for Wind Turbine Foundations

Wind turbines

A new technical report on Cyclic Degradation in the Geotechnical Design of Wind Turbine Foundations has been released by the American Clean Power Association. The draft report reviews the behavior of foundation support geomaterials under cyclic loading for various onshore wind turbine foundation types and highlights the importance of design to limit geomaterial degradation. This is not my area of expertise, but it certainly sounds like some much-needed guidance for practitioners and was put together by a large panel of experts with senior technical reviewers who include some well-known names in geotechnical circles. And I was especially excited to see that my college classmate, Eric Ntambakwa, was the chair of the committee. It’s so fun to see Eric and so many other classmates of mine hitting their stride in their careers.
