The Galveston Coastal Services Joint Venture was recently awarded the design of a 26.7-mile long segment of levee and floodwall system along the Texas coast near Galveston. The overall project is slated to last 8 years with a construction cost of $1.9B. The design portion of the work is expected to last two years, and construction will begin in 2022. The project “Orange” is the largest of a series of projects along the Texas coast and was funded by 2018 legislation for U.S. disaster recovery.

Recently, an escalation of subsurface water seepage through the pond’s embankment threatened the community’s main water source.
