This one got my attention. Hexagon announced on October 9 that it has signed an agreement to acquire Rocscience for an enterprise value of $535 million. Rocscience would become part of Hexagon’s Radar & Monitoring Division.
I think this is a big deal for geotechnical software. It fits the broader trend of specialty engineering tools ending up under much larger technology companies. Bentley and Seequent are the other obvious comparison, and now Hexagon may give them a run for their money.
The part I find most interesting is not the finance side. Hexagon is talking about connecting its field sensors and radar monitoring with Rocscience models, so observed ground movement could feed back into the engineering analysis. That sounds promising, although I will be interested to see what it means for day-to-day users, licensing, support, and the individual Rocscience products after the deal closes.
