ADAMA Software has released update 13.1 for their Mechanically Stabilized Earth retaining wall design software, MSEW 3.0 as of August 30, 2011. Some of the design methodology changes in the 2009 FHWA manual for MSE walls were implemented in Update 13, as well as a few corrections related to true bridge abutments and other bug fixes.

Google Earth Integration Offered for gINT Borehole Data
Related Images, Calculations, Automated Displays Programmable by Users with New Interface
Windsor, CA – September 11, 2008 – gINT Software, Inc.
A new upgrade to gINT geotechnical and geoenvironmental software lets users publish boreholes to Google Earth, Google’s satellite imagery–based mapping product. The version 8.2 upgrade enables users to specify an icon, color, label, and description to associate with the borehole via an easy-to-use Google Earth Setup dialog in gINT. When the borehole icon on the Google Earth map is clicked by a viewer, a user-designed description will appear in a popup window. The window can also contain links to any type of file, including images and PDFs displaying the boring log, enabling users to visually provide a substantial amount of information for each borehole.

New FHWA Manual on Spread Footings for Highway Structures
Hot on the heals of the revised MSE Wall Manual, the FHWA has released another manual, this one on Spread Footings. Selection of Spread Footings on Soils to Support Highway Bridge Structures was authored by Naresh C. Samtani, PE, PhD, Edward A Nowatzki, PE, PhD and Dennis R. Mertz, PE, PhD. So what is this manual all about? I think the foreword by Scott Anderson, PE, PhD of the FHWA Resource Center says it best:
