Time again for a summary of changes to ASTM standards that may be of interest to geotechnical engineers, engineering geologists and those in geoconstruction and even lab testing or CQA. This month there is a new standard for a new type of geomembrane, revisions to standards relating to ultrasonic testing and general nondestructive testing terminology, evaluation of particle shape in aggregates, and re-approval of standards relating to non-asbestos fiber-cement based products. Last month there were several updates to standards involving texting the flexural strength of concrete as well as updates to some masonry and dimension stone standards. ASTM D6926 – Standard Practice for Preparation of Bituminous Specimens Using Marshall Apparatus has been updated, so if you are involved in asphalt pavement testing, make sure you go and find out what the changes are. There are also a whole slew of groundwater and site investigation standards that were reapproved.
The folks at the ASTM Committee on Concrete and Concrete Aggregate have been very busy recently. The past month has seen a whole slew of new and revised standards on concrete sampling and testing. Be sure to check it out if you are in the CQA biz.
Two new standards from the Geosynthetics committee of ASTM will help define properties that can be used in the design of geosynthetic reinforced pavement. I know in my practice in Arizona, ADOT simply allows a […]
Here we go again, revised and reapproved ASTM standards that might be of interest to geopractitioners (to borrow a term from Ed Medley). In June, some of the noteworthy standards were D6938 – In place density and moisture using the nuclear gauge, electric cone penetrometer testing for environmental site characterization, standard practice for placement and assembly of gabions and revetment mats and standard practice for decontamination of field equipment at low level radioactive waste sites…sign me up! Tony Allen of Washington State DOT may be one of the most influential people in the country in the field of geosynthetics standards, testing and specifications. His involvement in the field of geosynthetics over the […]
Updated ASTM Standards for May, 2010. Click through for the list of new, revised and reapproved standards relating to geotechnical and geological engineering, soil and rock laboratory testing and materials testing that were updated last month.
Standards governing the testing of tensile strength of geogrid and geotextile tensile strength are among the standards updated over the past month by the ASTM. This includes a new standard for "Determining Small-Strain Tensile Properties of Geogrids and Geotextiles by In-Air Cyclic Tension Tests". A number of standards relating to concrete including capping of concrete cyllinders for testing have also been updated. Click through for the list.
Deformability and strength of weak rocks using in situ UCS test, fluvial sediment terminology, concrete and concrete aggregate terminology and nondestructive testing terminology are among the ASTM Standards revised this month. There are also some reapprovals that are noteworthy, including chain of custody procedures and some asbestos and peat related standards.
