The Geosynthetic Institute has released a white paper examining ‘U.S. State Environmental Agency Status with Respect To Reviewing and Permitting Mechanically Stabilized Earth (MSE) Landfill Berms’. The use of MSE Walls to buttress landfill berms has been increasing in popularity. The walls can potentially decrease the need for ROW and increase the ultimate volume of waste that can be stored. This short white paper by Robert Koerner and Jamie Koerner presents the results of a survey to various state agencies that permit landfills. The Geosynthetic Institute appears to be considering producing some form of guidelines for the use of MSE Berms. [Source: Geosynthetics. Image: Geosynthetic Institute]
